Just-in-Time JIT One Day Seminar The philosophy of Just-in-Time mainly encompasses two concepts: the elimination of waste in the process and the continuous improvement of the process, be it in the factory or in the support function offices. The first half of this seminar deals with the basics of JIT as seen by the "Gurus". It looks at the tools, techniques and systems that are available for JIT implementation as well as the wastes that should be eliminated and where to find them. Delegates will also be introduced to the concept of Lean Manufacturing. The second half of the seminar is the "Buckingham JIT Game". The aim of the game is to illustrate JIT concepts in a way that involves delegates not only learning through participation but also in decision making. As a result of playing the game, participants should understand a number of the basic JIT techniques, the interaction between these techniques, and be aware of some of the issues concerning the sequence of JIT implementation. Three points distinguish this game from others: participant decision making, multiple products, and uncertain demand. The game is therefore closer to reality than some other games. Hopefully, participants will be stimulated to make changes to their own processes. Because of the requirements for the game, the number of participants on each course is limited to between 6 and 12. Delegates will receive course notes plus a copy of the booklets by John Bicheno, "The Quality 60: A guide to Gurus, Tools, Wastes, Techniques" and "Cause and Effect JIT: The Essentials of Lean Manufacturing". In addition participants will receive a copy of the computer version of the Buckingham JIT Game. |
